Creation and Development of New Woodland
F&W Forestry has established new woodlands and forests in various locations and settings across the UK. We can design, plant, and manage any type of woodland from native broadleaves to productive conifers.
New woodland planting is carried out for four primary reasons:
- Afforestation for commercial purposes
- Management of marginal agricultural land and farm improvement
- Establishment of new woodland for amenity and conservation
- Carbon sequestration projects
- Landscaping new building developments, landfills, and ex-industrial sites

F&W Forestry offers a comprehensive service in woodland establishment and development, from the inception and consultative stage to grant applications, planting, maintenance, and management.
There are three main grant schemes operating within the UK: The English Woodland Creation offer (EWCO) managed by Forestry Commission in England, the Woodland Creation Grant scheme managed by Natural Resources Wales and the Forestry Grant Scheme managed by Scottish Forestry. Our staff are experienced in all three schemes and can make applications on behalf of landowners to attract grants for woodland creation.
There are other grants and incentives available, which vary throughout the year. Get in touch with your local office to establish what funding is available in your area.
In addition to government funding, we are experienced with the Woodland Carbon Code scheme and are registered project developers. You may be eligible to participate, depending on the type of woodland you wish to plant. We can get your woodland proposal registered, then validated once planted, and can continue to provide management input and advice throughout the verification process. Ultimately, the growing of trees sequesters carbon which you can monetise through the Woodland Carbon Code by selling Pending Issuance Units (PIUs) and Woodland Carbon Units (WCUs).
